CDC Pearl is a new Kabuli chickpea variety with improved resistance to Ascochyta Blight, earlier maturity and smaller seed size. It is tolerant to imazamox herbicide (Solo ADV as per PMRA label registration).

CDC Pearl Kabuli Chickpea
Overview: CDC Pearl is a new chickpea variety with improved resistance to Ascochyta blight and tolerance to imazamox herbicide (Solo ADV).
Performance: In two years of rigorous regional chickpea trials (2019-2020), CDC Pearl exhibited outstanding performance. When compared to the standard "Amit," CDC Pearl yielded 104% higher in both brown and dark brown soil zones also featuring superior disease resistance and earlier maturity.

Origin & Breeding History: CDC Pearl (formerly known as 3647) originated from a cross between 'CDC Orkney' and CA05-75-45, with subsequent backcrosses to CA05-75-45 in 2015. It underwent extensive selection and breeding at the Crop Development Centre, University of Saskatchewan, focusing on traits like yield, seed weight, seed size, days to flower, days to maturity, plant height, and disease resistance.
